Employment and Education Law
Susan supports the firm’s employment and education law practices, conducting investigations and advising employers, colleges, and universities on compliance and operational policy. Licensed to practice in both California and Ontario, Canada, Susan regularly consults on cross-border employment matters, particularly in the technology sector. She brings to this work past experience representing a major Canadian university in student conduct matters and experience litigating public and private sector employment cases on behalf of both employers and employees.
Complex Commercial Litigation
Susan’s work in this area includes financial services, fraud, class actions, and cross-border disputes. She has experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in all stages of the civil litigation process, from investigations, discovery, expert work, summary judgment motions, and settlement, through trial, and appeals. She particularly enjoys financial services litigation, including investment fraud, and consumer financial services litigation. In December of 2020, Susan was selected to be a Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitrator.
Prior to law school, Susan worked as a senior policy advisor with the Ontario Attorney General. She received her juris doctor from Canada’s top-ranked law school, the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, in 2009, and went on to practice with the Silicon Valley offices of Robins Kaplan LLP and Paliare Roland Rosenberg Rothstein LLP in Toronto, Canada.
